8 Days – Poe Kyar elephant camp – Taungoo – Loikaw – Phekon – Inle lake – Kalaw – Nay Pyi Taw – Yangon

Day 01 Launch trip to Poe Kyar elephant camp

We leave around 08:00 AM from Yangon. After 33 km, starts wander in Hlawga national park where there has tropical climate flora and fauna are preserved well. Monkeys and deer are plenty. Continue drive, arrive 115 mile rest camp for lunch. Proceed to Poe Kyar forest and elephant camp located at 4 miles west of the express road 173/4-mile post. We trek to the villages nearby and tour around the camp on foot. Around 4:00 PM we enjoy an elephant ride through the jungle and see elephant performance. Check out from the jungle and head to Taungoo for an hour drive.

Day 02 Taungoo – Loikaw 210 Km * 8 hrs drive

The trip Taungoo to Loikaw is partly flat and slowly crawls up the low mountain ridge. There are full of challenges for a car; narrow road, potholes, twist and turns all the way up to Demoso which is 20 km south from Loikaw. This country road goes through the four provinces; Bago division, Karen state, Shan state and kayah state. Many villages will come to your view living Karen, ethnic Shan and Kayan people. Advise leaving Taungoo at 07:00 and several stops for photos, refreshing, meal breaks and sightseeing. Arrive Loikaw at end of the day.
 

Day 03 Loikaw and surrounding

loikaw 03Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing in and outside of Loikaw. Taung Gwe Zedi, the highlight of the town. Thittabin hill, the pivot natural viewing center. Central market is lively and swarming. More visit to Naung Yar lake and Kayah state miniature. Kayah museum will tell about people, culture and lifestyle. After lunch stretch out to Demoso township. Visit to Htipwint Lake and Ngwe Taung dam . Overnight in Loikaw.

 

 

Day 04 Loikaw – Phekon – Inle lake – Nyaung Shwe

After breakfast we leave for Phekon where must change by boat to Inle lake. After an hour boat ride through Phekhon lake arrived at the ancient city of Zagar. This old city from 17th century was flooded and abandoned due to the construction of a dam downstream. There are some 50 different pagodas and temples here built by Shan nobilities. Take a short walk among temple ruins and viewed some beautiful Buddha images. Crossed the Zagar lake to visit rice liquor making place at Thar-yar-gone village, had lunch there and took a walk through village to get to jetty.
Continue boat trip to Inle Lake. The boat trip was fabulous: the mountains on either side, the villages and the activities of villagers bathing, rowing their canoes, water buffaloes and cattle bathing in water, big wooden monasteries, wooden and bamboo houses in all different villages as we passed on. It took about 2 hours to get Nyaung Shwe town, the gate way to Inle lake.
 

Day 05 Inle lake – Indein

inle 09Inle lake exists at 2950 ft above sea level. Visit by boat on the amazing Inle Lake to see the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and the magnificent scenery. visit the Phaungdaw U Pagoda, one of the main shrines in Myanmar which date back to the 18th century; the Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, famous for its jumping cats trained by monks; the weaving village of Inpawkhon. Afternoon depart by boat for the western shore of the lake, where you will find the beginning of a long stair path leading to the well hidden Inndein Pagoda complex. Here you will see one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by moss and vegetation. After sightseeing return to your hotel in Nyaung Shwe.
 

Day 06 Nyaung Shwe – Taungyi – Kalaw

taungyi 01After breakfast leave for Taungyi, the capital of Shan State. Taunggyi is situated at 1436 meter above sea level and understated description of the dramatic scarp slope on which the town stands. The weather is cool therefore worth an excursion: The market place with its colourful dressed ethnic groups is a walking museum of Shan. The Shan State Museum contains good collection of tribal costumes, weapons and artifacts as well as a collection of antique opium weights and musical instruments (including a snakeskin guitar). Shwebonpwint stupa is the best view point to watch the entire town. After lunch leave for Kalaw known as a summer resort. Kalaw is situated at 1570 meter above sea level surrounded by mountains where a lot of pine trees grow. Watch town view from Thein daung monastery and visit Shwe Ou Min pagoda cave. Stroll at your leisure nearby market place. Overnight in Kalaw.
 

Day 07 Kalaw – Pin Laung – Nay Pyi Taw

naypyitaw 01After breakfast, leave for Nay Pyi Taw via Pinlaung junction. Although the road is not so smooth, there is very beautiful scenery with high mountains and colourful plantations of sesame, pepper and sunflowers through November to February. First visit to Myinmahti cave which has beautiful stalactites, Buddha Statues placed in olden days and has two exits. Pinlaung Town is at 1600 m above sea level; intend to build as summer resort in the future. Beyond Pinlaung, the mountain range gradually crawls down with numerous s-bends. Either side of the road is high cliff and deep gorge until near to Tatkone. Trees and plantations cover everywhere. Then it becomes flat until to Nay Pyi Taw. Overnight in Nay Pyi Taw.
 

Day 08 Nay Pyi Taw – Yangon

Stay or a brief look about Nay Pyi Taw for the morning. Leaving Nay Pyi Taw at late morning and stop for lunch on the way 115 mile camp. Then directly back to Yangon.

Note: Overland to Kayah and Inle programme expect for small group 2-6. Each participant join in this programme is understood that you are earnest to enjoy authentic nature and its challenges. Be fit enough your personal condition and compatible in call of yore. This programme will not invite for the fussier. No organize for solo traveler.
